1.       Who can memorialise a loved one?

The Applicant who has signed the paper work with the Funeral Director is responsible for memorialisation of a loved one. The Applicant can provide written authorisation to permit another person to arrange a memorial and the interment of ashes. Anyone can arrange a memorial with no placement of ashes with the Memorial Park at any time.

2.       When to organise a memorial?

You can organise a memorial for a loved one at any time, irrespective of how long it has been since the death occurred. An increasingly popular choice is to pre-purchase and reserve a memorial. This has the advantages of:

Many people select and organise a memorial within a few days of a funeral or cremation. This can be done by making an appointment with the Memorial Park of your choice and asking their customer service consultants to explain the options that are most appropriate for your needs, preferences and budget. For example, at the Eastern Suburbs Memorial Park, you can choose between:

A memorial will provide a focal point for current and future generations and may be placed in individual, couple or family settings. It is a permanent record that the life of a loved one was much celebrated by their family, friends and community at large.

3.        What is a Family Garden within a Memorial Park?
A "Family Garden" is a family's reserved position of choice within a Memorial Park. It provides a focal point for each family to pay their respects, spanning many generations. The pre-purchase of a family memorial will guarantee that the family is together forever.

A Family Garden can be a feature garden bed adorned with roses or may surround the base of a shaded tree or memorial feature. They can vary considerably in size, depending on the location and the current and future needs of families.

There are many Family Gardens to choose from within the Eastern Suburbs Memorial Park. You can select a position within our beautifully manicured, award-winning formal gardens, or one that borders cascading water and ponds, under shaded trees in a natural parkland setting.

The purchase of a Family Garden has the advantages of securing your position and paying current prices, thereby protecting your family from any increases that may occur in the future.

4.       Celebrating anniversaries?

Anniversaries are a special and important time to reflect on the life of someone who was dear to us. We tend to keep these dates firmly entrenched in our minds, and even the most busy amongst us, are prompted to give thought to our loved ones when anniversaries fall due.

These occasions need not only be annual. Special events also can trigger memories of times we spent with a loved. It may be a holiday, sporting activity or social gathering of some kind.

At the Eastern Suburbs Memorial Park, we celebrate non-denominational memorial services on Mother's Day, Father's Day and in the days leading up to Christmas. These are important times for people, especially for those amongst us who have recently lost a loved one and are left with a feeling of loss and emptiness. We find that these services offer great comfort and companionship and everyone is welcome to attend.

Memorials, crypts, vaults and burial sites provide families with a special focus when they celebrate the anniversary of someone close to them. We find that many of our families visit our Park on these occasions to make special tributes to their loved ones. They can also enjoy the beautiful gardens and a cup of coffee, tea or refreshment at our new café before returning home after their visit.

5.       Can I arrange a memorial in a different place to where the person's ashes are?
Yes. It is not necessary for the ashes to be placed with the memorial which can also be created at any time, irrespective of how long it has been since the death occurred. This is especially important for families when the ashes of their loved ones have been scattered or are in distant locations.

A memorial will provide a focal point for current and future generations and may be placed in individual, couple or family settings. It is a permanent record that the life of a loved one was much celebrated by their family, friends and community at large.

The pre-purchase of a family memorial will reserve a preferred permanent place and guarantee that the family is together forever. A Family Garden can be a feature garden bed adorned with roses or may surround the base of a shaded tree or memorial feature. They can vary considerably in size, depending on the type of memorial and the available space of each location.

6.       Can ashes be divided?

Yes they can, but this must be requested in writing by the Applicant. This request can be made to the Funeral Home at the time of making the funeral arrangements. A suitable time for the ashes to be collected can be arranged. Many families divide ashes, placing half at a memorial in our gardens and taking the other half home

10.   Can ashes be exhumed and if so on whose authority?

Ashes can be exhumed, but this must be supported by the correct documentation and authorisation by the Applicant who has signed the paper work with the Funeral Director.
